Coworking:

The term coworking has recently caught on to describe the setting whereby diverse (or not) groups of individuals share an office or workspace. The obvious benefits include cross-pollination of ideas and information, an atmosphere of energy that is often accompanied by numerous bodies working in the same area (unlike home office work environments which can be stifling and isolating), and an increase in business referrals and networking opportunties. While some work requires closed-door isolation even in a shared office, the spirit of being around other like-minded (usually progressive, environmentally conscious, and socially aware) individuals has powerful advantages in its ability to create an atmosphere that inspires rather than stifles (unlike many conventional executive office suites).

There are several sites that promote the concept of coworking, including the Coworking Wiki, that promotes the concept through a mailing list, and lists grassroots coworking spaces formed around the world from within existing offices.

At Nutopia we see the coworking movement as part of a broader migration from the 'corporate culture' laid down by office mindsets founded in the era of 1950's 'Corporation Man', towards a more distributed, cost-efficient way of utilizing commercial real estate in a world that more and more seems to recognize the benefits of shared space and resources.
